The Justice League arrives in 2017 picture courtesy of WARNER BROS. PICTURES |
With not many new releases this weekend I think it’s time to look to the future and what awaits on the big screen this upcoming 2017. I tried to narrow my list of films I am looking forward to only ten, but there are just too many movies that deserve my attention. Also this is not the definitive list of all the films I will be paying attention to this coming year, they are just the one’s that have stuck in my memory. I’m sure there will be other movies that will catch my attention as the year progresses; notice there’s no horror, comedy, and only one animated film on the list. Here are the fifteen films I am looking forward to in 2017: (Click on the titles in color to open the link for the trailer)
15. “The Dark Tower”- I don’t know what to expect, but anything based on Stephen King material has my attention.
14. “LEGO Batman”- The LEGO Movie was quite entertaining and one of the standout performances in the film was Batman voiced by Will Arnett. Will it work as a feature film? we will have to wait and see.
13. “A Cure for Wellness”- I don’t know much about this film but the trailer was very intriguing and weird enough to garner some attention.
12. “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”- The first movie was a wonderful surprise, my father liked it very much, but will this film work without Colin Firth who did a great job in the first film?
11. “Logan”- “The Wolverine” was a great improvement over “Origins”, and the R rating in my opinion is a welcome change to the mutant with the adamantium skeleton saga.
10. “Spider-Man Homecoming”- Now that the popular web slinger is part of the MCU it’s time to hit the reset button, and join Peter Parker in an exciting adventure that takes place in high school.
9. “Dunkirk”- The latest film from director Christopher Nolan is a World War II story about the evacuation of Allied troops from the shores of France.
8. “War for the Planet of the Apes”- Humans battling apes to rule Earth, sounds very interesting to me.
7. “Wonder Woman”- I was impressed with the trailer for the film, and Gal Gadot looked pretty good portraying the character in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, I hope this doesn’t disappoint.
6. “Star Wars 8”- The “Force Awakens” was good in my opinion, good not great, but I enjoyed it. As the saga moves forward it better improve in the story telling rather than rely on nostalgia alone.
5. “Thor Ragnarok”- I might be in the minority, but I find the Thor series of films to be very entertaining and I for one can’t wait for another trip to Asgard or any other exotic locales.
4. “Alien Covenant”- This movie is high on my list mainly because I want answers damn it! “Prometheus” looked fantastic, but the story left much to be desired, and as much as I liked the film it left more questions than answers.
3. “Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2”- Probably the most pleasant surprise from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and overall great movie adventure. The sequel seeks to expand the universe with even more crazy adventures. We are Groot, yes we are.
2. “Kong: Skull Island”- I am a very big fan of very big monster movies and this one looks to be quite an adventure from the looks of the recent trailer. I’m hoping it is good and does well and leads to more giant monster movies in the future.
1. “Justice League”- No it is not a typo, as much divisiveness as the DC films have caused on the fans, I am still overly excited of seeing Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg together in one movie. I like “Man of Steel”, I was disappointed by “Batman v Superman”, and Suicide Squad was just average (or below), so I am worried it could be a disaster but I still want to see it.
There’s other movies on my radar but I’m not sure where they rank on my must see schedule: “Blade Runner 2049”; “It”; “John Wick 2”; “Despicable Me 3”; and “Ghost in the Shell”
There are films premiering this weekend some in select theaters. Hay películas de estreno esta semana, algunas en cines selectos;
“Paterson”- Comedy drama / Comedia dramática
“Toni Erdmann”- Comedy drama / Comedia dramática
